xone 3d ftw though. |
I've played with a Xone 62 and a little with a 92. I haven't played with a DJM 800 though.
My story (it's actually a saga) with the Xone 3D deserves its own thread, and i had contemplated creating one, still undecided. So i'll give you a little summary to help out.
I spent 2 months trying to get the 3D to work with my PC and failed. I tried everything i could think of and everything the internet had to offer, the 3D and PC was just not going to happen. If you'd like a transcription of my email's between A&H and myself then let me know (there's like 50 pages of it). They gave up, that's when you know you're in trouble. For the record I'm a software engineer so i know a thing or two about computers.
After two months i gave up and bought an iMac.
The 3D works and i have no integration issues, however 2 channels are fucked on it (they "bleed" sound really badly), so I'm getting that looked into now, I'm going to claim a new one, this shit has been the biggest fucking hassle in my life.
One thing that A&H pretty much (read: do) lie about is when they say "you can lock the LFO to the BPM", that's utter crap. The LFO is set to the BPM, it doesn't stay with the BPM, which I'm pretty sure is what 99% of people would think "locking" is (i did). This is a fact, from Andy Jones himself (designer of the 3D). You can get around this though by setting the LFO/BPM manually to 1 decimal place (138.4) which is a piece of cake, they should have just left the whole "locking" feature out.
In short, if you ignore some of the utterly weird design decisions they made (3 channel soundcard instead of 4 ... wtf?) then it's a wicked mixer. Sound quality is what you'd expect (amazing!), the mixer just feels great to mix with. I haven't assigned everything on the mixer yet, slowly working into it as i learn/struggle with it, but if i can get all these issues fixed up then it will be awesome.
The whole experience has taught me that I need to design and make my own controller, but that would cost WAY more than a 3D, and i can't afford that right now I think in the future at some point though i will.
Hope that helped. It's a good mixer, but the amount of problems I've had to struggle through make it hard for me to say too much good about the 3D. Hopefully it'll all get fixed up and I'll be able to start just hammering mixes out the way i had envisioned ....
4 Tracks with 4 Samples running and a whole lot of filters, effects and VST's running
p.s and yes, speakers/monitors are next, but i don't think that'll happen for quite a while, I'm saving to move to Europe to live, that's a priority.
